CRUISING vs. BALNEO THERAPIES on YACHTS.
We concluded our pre-vacation recordings in our episode lineup with our assessment of the risks presented by the newest form of mass tourism, THE CRUISING INDUSTRY.
Several questions have been analyzed between our team members Dr. Koscak and Dr. Braich and their validity connected to the new trend of the cruising industry, with the implication of their self- criticism in the post -pandemic era, concluding that the Cruising Industry is de facto the new manifestation of mass tourism. As such, cruising itself is further concentrating all the negative implications common to mass tourism we see currently.
In the matter of hygiene and health concerns, we debated the disastrous effects of public concentration on a gigantic ship with thousands of people in a limited space for weeks at a time. We concluded that against all efforts of the industry to mitigate the problem, the ” sardines in a can ” effect will inevitably come to an outbreak of any contiguous state.
The same effect of the epidemic will be further exacerbated by the non – homogeneous structure of the tourists on the ship. The catastrophic impact of the cruising industry was also examined from the host experience with study in mass tourism and its effects on industries of local growth, being economic, socio-economic, environmental and physiological.
Our second part of the episode sets the BALNEO MEDICAL PROGRAM on the YACHT as a diametrically opposed form of health tourism to the mass tourism. The single similarity between the two industries is their maritime nature, very small groups of patients/health tourists are provided with the highest quality of medical care on a luxury yacht within a perfect environment. Finally our discussion reviews the costs of the maritime balneo therapies and ultimately states that NO PRICE SHOULD BE PUT ON ONES HEALTH , especially in the post Corona era.
One definite realization in regards to a scientific Balneo Medical Program is that cutting corners to reduce the costs IS NOT AN OPTION.
